POEM - Snow
Sister of Mary
Daughter of Great Lightness -
Keeper of White -
Clouds descended -
Silence as hard as frozen water -
Toneless blanket
Beneath which lingers
Nival love -
Still Prophecy
Of the great blankness
We traverse together.
Then
A smug tug
By fingers of the Sun
On lap,
On hands,
On cheeks
On closed, thin eyelids -
Angled, leaning steep against
The bite of coldness -
And the noncommittal
Dying scud of daylight
In late afternoon -
Sister of Mary
Daughter of Great Lightness
Keeper of White -
Hold me like breath.
